The British Columbia Public Prosecution Service confirmed that Grantham’s statement of second degree murder of his mother, Barbara Anne Waitecarries a life imprisonment mandatory. The sentencing process began June 13th and was held to determine how long Grantham will serve before he is eligible to apply for parole.
The prosecution explained that the Penal Code establishes that the Minimum period of disqualification for parole for murder in second grade is 10 years with a maximum period of 25 years.

According to ComplexGrantham mentioned his plan to kill Trudeau in a statement to the police, as well as excerpts read in court from his private diary. The outlet said that Grantham never made it to Trudeau’s residence and instead went to the police headquarters in Vancouver to surrender.
The Crown Prosecutor, Michaela Donnelly, referred to two psychiatric reports which showed that the actor had been going through a “intense period of clinical depression” in the months prior to the crime. The reports also showed that Grantham was “experiencing urges to commit violence and commit suicide”.
The reports further said that Grantham made the decision to kill his mother “to prevent her from seeing the violence what he intended to commit.”
It was Grantham’s sister, Lisa Grantham, who found their mother on April 1. She shared a shock statement in court, saying that her mother, who was battling cancer, was her “best friend.” “She was vulnerable and Ryan didn’t give her a chance to defend herself. It hurts me to know that he was a danger to his life,” she said.
Both she and her mother’s sister told the court that “they are afraid she will get out of prison.”
According to the British Columbia District Attorney’s Office, Wednesday was the last day of the three days scheduled for the hearing.
